On Oct. 7, the Cazenovia Town Board approved the purchase of professional air purification systems for the town offices.
The board passed a resolution authorizing the procurement of two Intellipure Compact Professional DFS Air Purification Systems and one Intellipure Ultrafine 468 Professional DFS Air Purification System from HealthWay Home Products, Inc. for a cost not to exceed $1,887.30.
According to Councilor Kyle Reger, the largest system will be used for the building’s three meeting rooms. One of the smaller units will be positioned in Town Clerk/Tax Collector Connie Sunderman’s space, and the second will be placed in Building & Codes Enforcement Officer Roger Cook’s area.
“They are far superior to HEPA filters,” Reger said. “They can take out [particles as small as] .007 micron in size, which is extraordinary. They are one of the industry leaders and they are right up in Pulaski . . . Upstate Medical has them [too]; they are going all over the place, which is great.”
Town Supervisor Bill Zupan added that the Syracuse School District is using the same filters for their classrooms.
The board also voted to approve the tentative budget for the fiscal year beginning Jan. 1, 2021.
“So far it’s a one percent decrease for the town outside of the village and a three percent increase for the village [tax rate],” said Zupan.
The Preliminary Budget of the Town of Cazenovia is housed in the town clerk’s office. Copies are available for public distribution upon request.
The board will hold a budget work session on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020 at 7 p.m. Town board members who are comfortable meeting in-person will do so at the town office. The public can view the work session via Zoom at madisoncounty-ny.zoom.us/j/91436716395.
The special meeting will also include a public hearing at 7 p.m. on the proposed joint increase and improvement of the facilities of the Town of Cazenovia/Town of Nelson Route 20 Water Districts.
A public hearing as to the adoption of the proposed 2021 Town Budget will be held via Zoom on Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m.

During his report, Zupan announced that there would be no walk-in payments for town and county taxes this year. A mail slot will be available outside the town office.
“If you want a receipt, you send a [self-addressed, stamped] envelope and we will send you a receipt,” Zupan said. “But nobody is going to be allowed into the town office for a receipt.”
Reger reported that the speed limit on Rippleton Cross Road has officially been reduced from 55 mph to 35 mph and that the new signs have been installed.
The November regular town board meeting will be held the first Monday of the month (Nov. 2), due to budgetary reasons.
