In the spirit of David Letterman’s “Top Ten” segment performed on his nightly program, Fayetteville Mayor Mark Olson has proposed a “Top Ten” list for the village board to accomplish in 2018.
“I thought this would be a good way to keep the village focused on what we want to do and what we want to accomplish,” said Olson.
Mayor Mark Olson’s “Top Ten” List for 2018:
- Senior center phase one and two construction, which will include additional site amenities, such as benches and trash cans.
- Canal Landing phase four and five construction, which will include additional paving, lighting, a new pedestrian bridge and added recreation areas in the park leading to the Feeder Canal. The mayor added that they have received “about $2 million in grants for phases four and five construction.”
- Integrating new tax collection software with the county IT, which could save the village a couple hundred dollars. “Our tax bills currently cost $2,000 to send out, but [by integrating a new tax collection software] it could be reduced to $1,200” Olson said.
- Updating the employee handbook.
- Implement updated parks master plan.
- Safe routes to schools, phase two project.
- Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Route 5 traffic study.
- Meadowbrook ionized study end plan, which will investigate the sewer systems and unwanted materials entering Meadowbrook. “It doesn’t sound very exciting, but it’s very important,” said Olson.
- Pine Ridge Road drainage project.
- Stabilize the tax rate.
The sidewalk construction will be an important milestone for Fayetteville, as by the end of its construction, “100 percent of the village will have sidewalks,” said Olson. “We want every child to be able to ride or walk safely to school.”
