The Madison County Reuse Store, managed for the past five and a half years by the Rescue Mission of Syracuse will close on March 31. Due to lack of sufficient revenue the Rescue Mission has made the decision to no longer manage the store.
Further, the Dept. of Solid Waste recently secured a grant from the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to expand the store, increasing its size by 3,000 square feet. The addition will remedy the space shortage by providing, heated, dry space to display reusable construction materials and large furniture for purchase. The newly remodeled store will have a new look and feel focusing on low cost construction materials, making building and remodeling projects more affordable.
As in the past, donations will be welcome; if the items are in good condition. The additional space will double the display area allowing for increased sales and increased donations of construction materials and large items such as furniture.
Construction is slated to begin as soon as the weather warms and it is hoped that the Reuse store will reopen in the fall of 2017. Director James A. Zecca and his staff are reaching out to entities that might be interested in managing the newly remodeled Reuse Store. “We are hopeful that the search for a new sponsor will provide a solution that is satisfactory to all.” said Director Zecca.
