In an unofficial vote count of 426 to 119, incumbent mayor of Manlius Paul Whorrall has beat out his opponent Mark-Paul Serafin as a result of the March 21 village elections.
“I’m glad to be able to continue as mayor because we’ve made a lot of progress and we’ve still got a long way to go,” said Whorrall. “We have a lot of things going on that I’d like to see completed. I want to say thanks to my board for working so closed with me, our committee for working so hard campaigning and getting people in to vote, and lastly thank you to the residents of Manlius who voted for me and for their continued support.”
Whorrall, of the Citizens Party, has served as the mayor of Manlius since 2013, and served as a trustee for seven years prior to that. Serafin, of the Visions Party, previously served as mayor from 2009 to 2013, but was defeated by Whorrall in the 2013 election.
The mayor seat has a term of four years. Whorrall said in a candidate questionnaire distributed by the Eagle Bulletin that his goal in his next term was to find a balance between providing the services needed in the community while keeping costs and taxes as low as possible.
In addition to the mayor race, two incumbent trustees were reelected to their seats, Janice Abdo-Rott with 421 votes and Thomas Pilewski with 425 votes. These seats have terms of four years.
Incumbent Village Justice William J. Barrett was reelected to his seat with 451 votes, which also has a term of four years.
According to the Onondaga County Board of Elections, there are 10 uncounted absentee ballots that will be counted Friday and added to the total.
