Connors Road in the town of Van Buren could remain closed through the end of October, Highway Superintendent Doug Foster announced at the Sept. 1 town board meeting.
Foster said the road is closed for culvert repairs between Route 31 and West Dead Creek Road. The road is closed effective Sept. 8. Detours will be posted, and the road should open no later than the end of next month.
Also on the agenda
- The bid date for the town hall roof has been extended to Sept. 14. This is the second time the town board has voted to push the date back. Supervisor Claude Sykes said town engineer Jason Hoy was waiting on information from suppliers before he could finish the specs required for the project.
- The town board also voted to hire a consultant to assist with compliance services for the Affordable Care Act. Van Buren will pay Corporate Plans, Inc. (CPI-HR) $4,000 to provide reporting for employee insurance to the IRS, which is required beginning this year. Sykes said noncompliance fines start at $250 per day, per employee. Councilor Darcie Lesniak noted that this unfunded mandate will affect both local governments and small businesses alike.
