State police have arrested a LaFayette man in connection with the robbery of Citizens Bank in DeRuyter on Aug. 26.
Michael J. Butler, 39, was arrested by state police on Berwyn Road in Fabius on Sept. 4 and charged with robbery in the second degree – displays firearm.
“The State Police would like to commend the employees of the bank who were instrumental in bringing about a quick and successful resolution,” according to a state police press statement.
Members of the FBI and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in this investigation.
No further information has been released by police at this time.
The armed robbery occurred shortly before 11 a.m., on Friday, Aug. 26, at Citizens Bank, 750 Utica Street, in DeRuyter when a male suspect entered the bank wearing a disguise, displayed a pistol and demanded money. According to state police, the suspect, described as a Hispanic male, between 5 feet, 2 inches and 5 feet 5 inches in height, about 300 to 350 pounds, was last seen in a black midsize pickup truck, possibly a Chevrolet Canyon or Colorado, headed north on State Route 13.
Scanner traffic stated that state police, Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Cazenovia police officers mobilized immediately upon hearing of the alleged robbery and began to scour Madison County roads in search of the suspect, whose black truck was also described as having a white tool box.
The amount of money the suspect allegedly stole has not been released by police.
