DeWitt — The DeWitt Police Department has reported that a 57-year-old male victim has been killed relating to a pedestrian/vehicular accident that occurred at the Best Tile Syracuse at 5891 Firestone Drive in DeWitt.
Police responded to an incident in the afternoon on Jan. 21. Officers say the victim, identified as Ted Amidon of Tully, was standing between a vehicle and the loading dock of the business when the driver of the vehicle, identified as Andrew Clemens, 20, of Canastota, attempted to move his vehicle so that another vehicle could back into the loading dock, but did not realize that the manual transmission vehicle was in reverse. Officer said when he started it, the vehicle lurched backwards and pinned the victim between the vehicle and the loading dock.
Amidon was transported by EAVES Ambulance to University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police say Amidon and Clemens were customers of Best Tile. Officers ruled the incident to be accident, and no tickets will be issued.
