Saving Face Barbershop recently opened a second location on 127 E. Seneca St. in the village of Manlius, and its owners are hoping to change the way men experience the process of getting a haircut.
“I think it’s kind of a traditional barbershop with a hip vibe … It’s a unique experience, not the cookie-cutter experience you might get at other places,” said co-owner Taylor Horsman. “We want to make it a relaxing and enjoyable experience for our customers so they continue to come back.”
The shop offers traditional men’s cuts as well as straight razor shaves, coloring, hair designs, waxing and a variety of premium hair products.
Saving Face Barbershop began seven years ago when a location in Fairmount was opened. After success in that location, Horsman said he and co-owner Anthony Nappa decided to work together to find a second location, and settled on Manlius.
“We loved the area. We liked the focus that the people here put on supporting small businesses,” said Horsman. “Plus the location was in a nice spot with lots of restaurants and small businesses surrounding it.”
Horsman said there are a variety of ways for customers to enjoy themselves, with a coffee station, a pool table, games and shuffle board to keep them occupied while waiting. The shop will open with three barber chairs, but will expand as needed.
The Manlius location has already held a soft opening, but plans to hold a grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 10.
Giving back to the community is a large part in their business philosophy, said Horsman, and on an annual basis the barbers host a “Barber-Q” fundraising event for various local non-profits. This year’s event was held on Aug. 7 in Camillus and raised money for the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of CNY.
“People love it here and we think it’s important to give back to the community that supports us when we can,” said Horsman.
Haircuts are done mainly by appointment, but walk-ins are available. Appointments can be made by calling 692-2638 or online at savingfacebarbershop.com or by clicking here. Prices for haircuts range from $14 for senior cuts, to $19 for men’s cuts, with uniform and student discounts available. Straight razor shave prices are $15 for a standard shave and $20 for premium.
