Cazenovia — Cazenovia’s own Owera Vineyards has brought home more medals for its wine, adding one gold and two double golds to its increasing collections of accolades during the Florida State Fair International Wine Competition in Tampa, Fla., during the Feb. 25 weekend.
Owera’s Betty’s White and Owahgena White both won double gold medals, while the winery’s newest offering, the port-style Cazenovia 1793, won its first award with a gold medal.
“Owera’s team is always excited and honored to receive awards for our wines, especially gold. Since becoming our winemaker in 2013, The Cazenovia 1793 is the first wine that I personally added to our portfolio, which has made this particular medal very rewarding to receive,” said Owera winemaker Amy Heiderich. “We believe in the importance of a diverse wine portfolio, and by adding this port style wine feel that we made it more well rounded. We are thrilled Cazenovia 1793 has quickly become a customer favorite, and so well received.”
There were 354 wines entered in the commercial competition of the Florida State Fair International Wine Competition, according to its website.
New York state wines won big at the Florida event, winning four of the six Best of Show categories, plus 19 double gold, 19 gold, 34 silver and 12 bronze medals, according to newyorkwines.org.
