Martin Thomas, a second-generation volunteer firefighter from Warners, has been re-elected to the board of trustees of the Firefighter’s Home, a skilled nursing home available to all New York volunteer firefighters through the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY).
The announcement was made at the association’s 151st annual convention in Niagara Falls which began on Aug. 10.
The Firefighter’s Home traces its roots back to 1892 and currently has 89 residents.
Thomas has served in the Memphis-Warners Volunteer Fire Department for 52 years.
This will be Thomas’ second term as a Trustee of the Firefighter’s Home. His term will last five years.
A 20 year member of Onondaga County’s underwater search and rescue team and a 30 year EMT, Thomas loves dedicating his time to serving his community.
“I enjoy helping the members of the Home, one of the premier facilities in the country,” Thomas said. “It’s fun getting to know the Home members and getting involved in the community.”
Outside of volunteering, he also participates in the Syracuse Corvette Club, which recently had a big show in Sylvan Beach. The show raised $22,000 for local charities.
Thomas has three kids and four grandchildren with his wife, April, and they are celebrating the recent birth of their very first great-grandchild, born on Aug. 21.
