TOWN OF MANLIUS – In a brief ceremony held at Manlius Town Hall on Thursday, Dec. 30, David Rothschild was sworn in as the newest Manlius town justice.
Onondaga County Court Judge Tom Miller handled the swearing in duties.
In his prepared remarks at the beginning of the ceremony, Miller described Rothschild as honest, ethical and someone who would do the right thing, even though it may not be the popular thing.
“Those are some of the qualities he’s going to bring to the bench here in the town of Manlius,” Miller said.
Rothschild has worked for Miller as his confidential court clerk for the past nine years.
“I’ve learned just an incredible amount from him about the law and about how to conduct myself,” Rothschild said. “His unwavering support has meant so much to me.”
After being sworn in, Rothschild thanked his family, friends and supporters, and highlighted a life lesson he learned early on from his parents.
“I remember, every time I was on the verge of making a poor decision as a child, my mother would say to me, ‘Let your conscience be your guide,’” he said. “I’ve tried hard to step back and think before I made a decision, ‘What’s the right thing to do? Let your conscience be your guide.’”
Since the results of the election were finalized, Rothschild has been familiarizing himself with the role and the personnel in the Manlius court.
“I have come to realize that I’m stepping into a great situation,” he said. “We have the best court clerks in Onondaga County here in the town of Manlius.”
