Onondaga County residents looking to rid their home of toxics can now make an appointment through OCRRA’s no-cost drop off program.
Appointments are available year-round on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 to 3 p.m.
Make an appointment at tinyurl.com/OCRRAtoxics.
From oil-based paints and pesticides to gasoline and pool chemicals, there are many household items that should not go in the trash or down the drain. Automotive products, garden supplies, cleaning products, painting supplies and anything that is toxic, flammable, poisonous or corrosive should be specially managed.
For a full list of items accepted under the program visit tinyurl.com/OCRRAtoxics. R
esidents should wait until they have at least a box full of toxics ready for drop off before making an appointment.
They may want to consider asking friends or neighbors if they have items they can bring in for them.
This program is free to residents, however, OCRRA pays a flat fee regardless of the number of items each resident brings to an appointment.
OCRRA asks residents to bring items in bulk, so that this essential service can continue at no cost.
Once an appointment is made, residents receive a confirmation email with instructions on where to deliver the items (Miller Environmental Group, off Hiawatha Blvd. in Syracuse) and safety instructions.
There is one appointment made every 15 minutes to ensure minimal contact between residents.
Being on time, wearing masks and following the drop off instructions in the confirmation email is of utmost importance.
Business materials are not accepted.
Residents of the Town and Village of Skaneateles are not eligible for this program as these municipalities are not part of the OCRRA service area.
Latex paint is not accepted under this program, but it can be easily disposed of by following directions on OCRRA’s website at tinyurl.com/latexpaintinfo.
