Summit Federal Credit Union to close Camillus branch
The Summit Federal Credit Union’s branch located at Township 5 in Camillus will close at the end of business, 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021.
“Part of our commitment to members is to keep our services relevant,” said Laurie Baker, president and CEO of The Summit. “We do this by assessing how we are fulfilling members’ needs, including how and where they make transactions.”
Almost 70% of The Summit’s members in Camillus are active users of the credit union’s mobile and online services, and the branch has seen declining traffic and fewer transactions for the past few years. In contrast, The Summit’s newest branches at Taft Road and in Cortland have experienced steady streams of members seeking in-person services.
“We made this decision from a position of strength,” Baker said. “The Summit continues to grow and invest in the Syracuse area, and Central New York is essential to our long-term plan.”
Bauer Financial has awarded The Summit a 5-star rating (its highest) for fiscal strength and superior attention to service, and Forbes honored The Summit as one of the best credit unions in New York State for 2020, based on overall recommendations and satisfaction, as well as for trust, terms and conditions, branch services, digital services and financial advice.
All employees of the Camillus branch will be offered employment in other areas of The Summit. The Summit serves 15,000 members and 40 member companies in Central New York, and The Summit will continue to support initiatives important to its Camillus members, such as the Camillus Police Department, Camillus Senior Center, Camillus Fourth of July Fireworks at Gillie Lake and the Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. An ATM will remain on-site following the closing.
“The Summit is constantly striving to better serve the interests of our members now and well into the future,” Baker said. “We look forward to continuing to provide the highest level of service to our Central New York members.”
