The Manlius Senior Activity Centre, located at 1 Arkie Albanese Ave., is making sure seniors in need do not go hungry by offering lunches.
“The senior center is closed at this time, but we noticed a need in the community for seniors wanting meals so we decided to serve take-out,” Ann Smith, executive director, said in an email.
Smith said the center has been serving meals Monday through Friday to any senior 55 and over. Anyone needing a meal need only call the Centre by 1:30 p.m. the day before, or sooner if possible. The cost is $5 for members and $5.50 for non-members.
“We try to make it fun by including surprise donated items with their lunch such as a roll of toilet paper or a box of Girl Scout cookie,” Smith added.
“If they bring a dog along it will get a dog treat. Trying to be positive and kind in a time of a lot of unknowns. We have had to cancel four of our largest fundraisers during April-June so we are starting a Gofundme to open up again sometime in the future. We do not get any state or federal funding, so we count primarily on our fundraisers and donations to operate.”
Call 315-682-7889 between 9:30-3 to make lunch reservations and visit the center’s website to access the menu at manliusseniors.org. Visit charity.gofundme.com to donate to the senior center, which can be found at “Save Our Senior Centre” on the gofundme website.
