Several Colgate University students have tested positive for the coronavirus. All those that have tested positive are off campus and back in their home communities, according to Daniel DeVries, Colgate’s media relations specialist.
As of March 23, the school had been notified of six students who had tested positive for coronavirus after leaving the campus and going home. Since then, at least one additional student has tested positive.
Although the school has adopted distance learning and closed academic buildings, about 260 students remain on campus, DeVries said. Most of these are international students or students who can’t return to their home communities for some other reason.
As of March 26, there have been no positive cases of coronavirus among the students who remain on campus.
Central New York’s first confirmed death due to the coronavirus was an elderly resident of Hamilton.
