The following statement was issued Nov. 21 and signed by the Skaneateles Board of Education, announcing Superintendent Lynda Quick will resign effective Jan. 19, 2020.
With the announcement by Lynda Quick that she is resigning as Skaneateles Superintendent of Schools effective Jan. 19, 2020, we are writing about succession plans already underway. The Skaneateles Board of Education is meeting on Friday with Brian Hartwell, who is the District Superintendent of the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES, and a resident of the Skaneateles school district. Mr. Hartwell is experienced guiding school districts through leadership transitions and knows our board, and district well. Working closely with Mr. Hartwell and Ms. Quick, the board will announce plans for interim leadership so that district operations continue smoothly once Ms. Quick departs in mid-January. We will continue to communicate regularly with you as the process evolves.
At a time when school districts across the nation face challenges in virtually all facets of public education, staffing schools is an ever-increasing area of attention. Whether getting children to and from school, teaching and aiding them once they are here, managing our facilities and programs, maintaining strong administration, and even in school board positions, no school district is immune to new realities. In Skaneateles, we indeed are exploring how we may increase stability. During the District Superintendent vacancy, we expect to draw heavily upon our next level of school administrators, who collectively possess decades of firsthand experience.
Thank you for your support of the Skaneateles School District as we all work with Ms. Quick during her transition over the next couple of months. While our school’s dedicated workforce will continue to provide the high-quality education that we all so much appreciate, please reach out to the members of the Board of Education with any concerns you may have. We sincerely wish Ms. Quick all the best and thank her for her work in Skaneateles. Ms. Quick leaves the Skaneateles school district in an even better state than when she started, and we are deeply thankful.
