Marcellus Free Library plans summer events
For children
Tour Your Turf 2019 Summer Learning Experience: Running through Aug. 9
For children preschool through Grade 5. Registration required. Register online at marcelluslibrary.org, call the library or visit the Circulation Desk.
Kids, prepare for an adventure! Dash down to the library and pick up your “Pocket Docket” complete with travel reading register for picture and chapter books. Read. Record your titles. Then beginning July 1, come in to the library once a week for the next six weeks, stamp your reading log sheets, submit your book/chapter totals, and pick a prize. For every five books/chapters read, receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of several assorted prizes. For children ages preschool – Grade 5. Registration is required.
Summer Story Times:
Toddler Story Time – Touring Toddlers on Tuesdays through Aug. 6 at 10:30 a.m. For children ages 18 months to 3 years with an adult. Registration required
Preschool Story Time – Preschool Pilgrims on Thursdays, July 11 through Aug. 8 at 1:30 p.m. For children ages 4 through 6 years old. Registration required
Wednesday, July 10 at 10:30 am: The Littlest Pirate Puppet Show performed by Melanie Zimmer from Dancing Bear Puppet Theater and Storytelling. Free and for all ages.
Thursday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m.: Family Fitness Yoga Workshop at Mandala Moon Yoga, LLC. For children ages 7 through 12 years with their parents or caregiver. FREE. Registration is required at marcelluslibrary.org or call 315-673-3221.
Wednesday, July 17 at 10:30 a.m.: Bubblemania! Presented by Doug Rougeux. Held in the Marcellus Central Schools KCH gym. Free and open to the public. All ages welcome.
Wednesday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m.: Participate In Planting a Garden at the Library with Mark Moncavage of Sparrow Flowers and Gardens. Families will learn about garden creation and design, and will participate in planning a beautiful new flower garden on the grounds of the Marcellus Library.
Thursdays, July 18 and 25 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.: Marcellus Family Mural Project with Rob Petrie. Held at the Library in the Friends Community Room. Families will work together to devise and paint two triptychs representing the community of Marcellus that will then be displayed at the library.
Wednesday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m.: Ken Harms Family Concert. Free and open to all. Held in the Friends Community Room.
Wednesday, July 24 at 6:30 p.m.: Birds of Prey presented by Jean Soprano of Kindred Kingdoms Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Held at Baltimore Woods Nature Center. All are welcome.
Wednesday, July 31 at 10:30 a.m.: Checkers and Snoozer performed by Joey Hamilton. Comedy, Magic and juggling. Held in the Friends Community Room. All ages welcome.
Wednesday, July 31 at 6:30 p.m.: All Ages Helping All Ages presented by the Marcellus Grange located at 15 W. Main St. in Marcellus. Families will work together to make a stuffed toy for the children at Galisano Hospital. Led by Granger Mary Widger.
Thursday, Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m.: Orenda Springs Adventure! Zip Lining and Pony Riding with John Powers. Held at Orenda Springs, 4939 Lawless Road in Marcellus. Registration is required at marcelluslibrary.org or call 315-673-3221. Space is limited. This is for children ages 5 through age 10. Parents will encourage and support their kids throughout the duration of this adventure and must stay.
Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m.: The Big Reveal Celebration! All community members are invited to celebrate the completion of our triptychs, our flower garden and our Summer Learning Experience Programs and Workshops. AMP Concert kicks off at 7:00 pm featuring the talents of Marcellus High School musicians Errol Fern, Bobby Bartolotta, Luke Hart and Kevin Shea. All are welcome!
Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m.: Zoo to You. Held in the Friends Community Room. All are welcome.
Adult and Teen 2019 Summer Reading Challenge: Program runs through Aug. 9. Registration is required: marcelluslibrary.org or call 315-673-3221.
Teens and adults, earn a raffle ticket for every book you read or listen to; paper, electronic and audiobooks all count. Every Friday starting July 12, we will draw a ticket and gift the winner with a $25 gift certificate to a local business. Chances are cumulative throughout the summer, so the more times you enter, the more chances you have to win! Also, fines will be waived for participants of the teen and adult summer reading challenge.
For Teens – Fiction n’ Flicks at the Marcellus Free Library: Book Discussion: Tuesday, July 16 and 23 at 6 p.m. Movie Showing: Tuesday, July 30 at 5 p.m. Open to the public. Calling all teens and young adults! The library would like to introduce our upcoming summer reading program Fiction n’ Flicks. Our group will be reading the book “Five Feet Apart” by Rachael Lippincott and watching the movie based on the book. Copies of the book will be available through July 9 and can be checked out at the library. Snacks will be provided for all events and we hope to see you there!
Monday Nights Are Trading Card Game Nights at the Library! July 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 6 p.m. Students and families gather to play trading card games like Magic: The Gathering and Pokeman in a judgment free zone. Open to enthusiasts of all ages.
Wednesday, July 3 at 6:45 p.m. and Friday, July 5 at 1 and 2:15 p.m.: Paper Crafts with Alyson. Call the library to register.
July 8, 11 and 15 at 6 p.m.: Bicycle Basics – Maintenance and Repair Workshops. For ages 15 and up. Learn the basics of roadside bike repair and routine bicycle maintenance through these series of hands-on workshops. For cyclists ages 15 and up. Free – registration is required.
Friday, July 19 at 7 p.m.: Harms and His Band in Concert on the Library Lawn: Rain location the Friends Community Room. Wear your coolest tie-dye and rock out with the oldest and coolest hippie in CNY! Please bring lawn chairs. Free and family friendly.
