Summer programs in the Town of Onondaga
Warm weather is right around the corner and with it some of our most popular programs! The Town of Onondaga Parks and Recreation Department has a variety of activities for all ages this summer for you and your family to enjoy. Whether you are looking to try out Pickleball at King Park or register your children for our six week summer playground programs, we have something for everyone.
Back again this year is our Summer Playground program! This 6 week program for kids ages 5-14 run from July 1st to Aug. 9 (excluding July 4 and 5) and include a variety of daily games, crafts and special events! All sites are supervised by experienced and energetic staff that plans themed weeks and activities for all participants.
All sites go on weekly field trips to locations such as Jamesville Beach, Syracuse Mets games, Rosmond Gifford Zoo and many more! Field trips are not included in the registration fee. Playgrounds at King Park, Santaro Park, Wheeler Elementary School and Onondaga Central High School run from 9:30 to 3 p.m. and cost only $80 for town residents and $160 for all others for all six weeks.
Town residents can receive a multi-child discount when registering three or more children of the same family. Extended hours are available at King Park and Wheeler Elementary (Onondaga Central participants may register for extended hours at Wheeler) for an additional fee; $60/child for Town Residents, $70/child for all others. Transportation from Rockwell Elementary to Wheeler is also available for $20/child. 5 year olds must have completed kindergarten to participate in playgrounds. Make sure to sign up before June 14.
Children 5 and under who have not been in kindergarten? No Problem! Our Kinderkids program for children ages 3-5 at Onondaga Hill Middle School Monday – Friday, 9:30 – 11:30, July 1 – Aug. 9 is a perfect fit! Children will get structured and unstructured play time, do craft activities and have entertainment on special days. Sign up for Monday – Friday, Mon./Wed./Fri., or Tues./Thurs., whatever suits your needs! Registration price varies depending on residency and # of days per week.

Soccer Squirts: Ages 4 – 6, 9 to 10 a.m. ($44 Resident/$54 all others)
Skill Development: Ages 7 – 14, 9 to noon ($99 Resident/$109 all others)

Tennis Camp at Santaro Park:
Ages 4 – 8, 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. ($40 Resident/$50 all others)

Star Wars “FORCE” camp: Ages 5- 11, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Onondaga Senior Center ($80 Resident/$90 all others)

Looking for activities for the “young at heart” members of your family? We have lots of adult activities and classes for you to enjoy!
Summer Pickleball is back at King Park! Drop in from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday nights for $3 per day or buy a punch card, good at this or any other Picklball programs we host, for $30. Ages 18+, equipment available but feel free to bring your own paddle.
Need to obtain or update your American Heart CPR certificate? We offer the Heartsaver course, which is the standard for NYS coaches and teachers certification for only $55 for Town residents ($65 all others). The next session will be run on June 29 from 9 to 1 p.m. at the Onondaga Sr. Center.
Want to stretch out the end of summer? Our YogaFlow for Beginners runs Thursday’s Aug. 8 – 29 and is the perfect class for anyone who has never done Yoga before. Cool off inside and learn all the basic poses with experienced instructor Midge Regier from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at the Onondaga Senior Center. $20 for Town residents, $30 all others.
Summer is a great time to get outside and even if you’re not looking to sign up for programs, make sure to visit one or all of our Town’s Parks. All have playgrounds and fields for public use as well as pavilions with built in charcoal grills that can be rented for gatherings! Our parks have a variety of amenities including tennis, basketball and pickleball courts, beach volleyball area (King & Kelley Park), baseball/softball fields and multi-use athletic fields.
In addition to rentable pavilions, all facilities have shade shelters positioned near the playgrounds so you can get out of the sun during a hot summer day while kids are playing.
