Jazzed for Education this weekend
The Skaneateles Education Foundation will hold its third annual jazzED for Education fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Mandana
Barn, 1274 Lacy Road. The event will run from 6:30 to 11 p.m. jazzED for Education is now SEF’s primary annual sponsored event.
The genesis for the theme of this event comes from a beloved piece of Skaneateles history. In the summers of 1965, ’66 and ’67, the Soda Ash Jazz Band rented an old barn on Benson Road and opened their doors to crowds every weekend. People came to the Jazz Bar in droves to mingle and listen to the band play.
As a tribute to this fondly remembered moment in time from 50 years ago, SEF welcomes Soda Ash Six with some of their original band members, along with two additional jazz ensembles to entertain guests at the Mandana Barn, just down the road from the old, long-gone but not-forgotten Jazz Barn.
Advertised as “a swank affair”, the invitation promises attendees “Cold Drinks, Good Eats & Hot Jazz”.
Bringing their “Hot Jazz” to the barn that evening will be the Skaneateles High School Jazz Combo from 6:45 – 7:30, the Dave Wilber Sextet from 7:45-8:30 and Soda Ash Six will entertain guests with two sets at 8:45 and 9:45.
The “Good Eats” will be delicious complimentary appetizers and dinner from Moro’s Kitchen.
“Cold Drinks” can be purchased from the cash bar.
All guests will take home a souvenir pint glass to commemorate the event.
This year there are four amazing raffle offerings each valued at over $500 including: an interior design consultation from local interior designer, Charity Buchika of Teaselwood Design, an overnight stay at Mirbeau Inn & Spa with two spa treatments, a flight over the Finger Lakes piloted by US Air Force Colonel, Gary Charlton, and an original abstract landscape painting by artist Julie Fritz. Additional details on these raffle items may be found on the SEF website and tickets may be purchased in advance when buying tickets for the event.
SEF is thankful to the generous sponsors.
Tickets for jazzED for Education are $50 per person and raffle tickets are $10 each or three for $25 and may be purchased online at skanedfoundation.org, or by mailing a check to SEF at P.O. Box 16, Skaneateles.
“Last year we sold 180 tickets, so we are expecting about 200 guests this year,” reported Heather Carroll, Executive Director of SEF. “It’s going to be a great night. Don’t miss the swank affair of 2017!”
