Residents in the towns of Cazenovia, Nelson and Fenner will have many decisions to make during this November’s local and county elections. All three towns have a bevy of candidates, from town supervisors to town board members, highway superintendents, clerks and tax collectors.
While many of these races are uncontested, some have multiple candidates — and a few have no incumbent in the running.
In the town of Cazenovia, three candidates are running for two board seats, including the two incumbents, Kristi Andersen and Pat Race, and challenger Pat Vogl, former Cazenovia Board of Education member and president.
In the town of Nelson, highway superintendent Jack Sevier has announced his retirement after more than 40 years serving the town, and three candidates are in the running to replace him. Also in Nelson, Town Councilor Mike Costello has announced his retirement after more than 30 years on the board. Newcomer Deborah Kenn is the only candidate running to succeed him.
The town of Fenner has six positions up for elections this year, but all are uncontested. The one non-incumbent running for election is current Town Clerk Jennifer Stoker, who was appointed to the job in February upon the resignation of elected Town Clerk Paula Douglas.
At the county level, area residents also will be asked to choose a new county clerk and new county sheriff this November, with incumbent Clerk Denise A. Roe retiring and former Sheriff Allen Riley having resigned in June to serve on the state corrections commission.
Both county positions up for election are four-year terms.
