State Street Students Recognized for Donating Artwork to Crouse Health
A reception was held recently at Skaneateles Central’s State Street Secondary School to recognize members of the fourth and fifth grade class for donating original pieces of art to Crouse Health.
State Street students Luke Ellis, Devon Gryzlo, Tye Kennedy, Caleb Langford, Lauren Logue, Addison Badami, Alyssa Franciamone, Vivian Carroll, Olivia Rossi, and Ayla Pas’cal were contributing artists.
This marked the sixth year of donations to the Crouse “Healing Environment” program for State Street, bringing the six year donation total to 110 pieces.
While hospitals have a reputation for being white, cold, and sterile; the Crouse Health “Healing Environment” program has made great strides in bringing appropriate visual art into many of Crouse Health’s public and patient care areas using the talents of professional artists, junior volunteers, college students, and local school districts including Skaneateles Central Schools.
Healthcare research has shown that color can have a profound effect on mood and emotions, as can soothing visual images. As a result, pieces of art from State Street’s fourth and fifth grade class will now be on display at Crouse Health all year long.
Crouse CEO Kimberly Boynton as well as many other representatives from the “Healing Environment” committee were joined by Skaneateles Central School’s Superintendent Ken Slentz, State Street Principal Stephen Widrick, and Skaneateles Fine Arts Coordinator Dr. Paul Blair to recognize and celebrate the students’ involvement.
State Street art teacher Susan Barry was also on hand.
“I want to emphasize that this program not only benefits those at Crouse, but also our students who learn the life-long lesson that they can use their talents to help others and to make a difference in others’ lives,” said Barry. “Art, whether in the form of visual or performance, is so important in our lives and can be a tool to help create a positive environment.”
