Otisco Lake Preservation Association announces scholarship winners
By Tim Creamer, MD
President OLPA
As part of its continuing effort to educate the community about the importance of our water resources and watershed, Otisco Lake Preservation Association has made scholarships available to the high schools in the Otisco Lake watershed.
The Otisco Lake Preservation Association was formed as a not-for-profit 501(C)3 Corporation to protect one of our region’s greatest resources – fresh water. One of our missions is to help inform and educate the Central NewYork residents of the importance of protecting and preserving the lake and its watershed. Otisco Lake supplies 18 million gallons per day to Syracuse and the surrounding suburbs.
The Care of the Environment Award is given to a deserving graduating senior student who plans to enroll in post-graduate education in the environmental or health sciences. Distribution of the $250 award was at the discretion of the individual school administrative staff.
This year’s winners include Gillian Lightenfield from Onondaga Jr/Sr High School, Ellen Jaworski from Tully Jr/Sr High School and Keelin Kelly from Marcellus Sr High School.
