The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office reports that Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a fatal crash that occurred this afternoon on New Seneca Turnpike in the Town of Skaneateles.
At approximately 12:06 pm, Sheriff’s Deputies along with rescue personnel from the Skaneateles and Mottville Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a dump truck vehicle that struck a utility pole on New Seneca Turnpike between Lucinda Drive and Knightsbridge Road.
Deputies investigating the crash report that the dump truck had been travelling westbound on New Seneca Turnpike when it left the north side of the road struck a culvert and become airborne before striking a utility pole and coming to rest.
The driver, who was not seat belted, was ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The impact from the collision caused significant damage to the truck and left several residents without power due to the sheared off utility pole. Both directions of New Seneca Turnpike between Lucinda Drive and Fisher Road remains closed while members of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team process the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time, pending next of kin notification.
