Marcellus Free Library gets ready to kick-off Summer Reading 2016

During those long, lazy days of summer, it is a good time to catch up on some reading.
At the Marcellus Free Library, there will be numerous opportunities in the coming months for readers of all ages to catch up on the to do list of books, find a new favorite or get a jump on the coming school year.
For all ages
Little Free Library Grand Re-Opening June 15 at 6:30 pm. at the Marcellus Park. There will be face-painting, balloon animals & cotton candy as well as a book drive for donations of gently used children’s books to keep the Little Free Library stocked all summer long.
Electric Mud, Friday, June 17 @ 7 p.m. on the Library Lawn. Blues music featuring the talents of young, emerging musicians: Neil Minet, guitar/vocals, Jake Wojcik, drums and Shane Patterson, bass. Sponsored by the Optimist Club of Marcellus.
For adults
Exercise your mind: Read! June 1– August 30. Don’t let the kids have all the fun! Join MFL’s first adult summer reading challenge. Enter at the library or on our website.
Every Friday we will raffle off a $25 gift certificate to a local business. The more times you enter, the more chances you have to win. Chances are cumulative, so if you read one book during week 1 and go to one program during week, you will have one entry week one and two entries week two. Special thanks to the Friends of the Marcellus Library group for sponsoring this event.
Walk & Talk Book Group Tuesdays at 10 a.m. at the Marcellus Park pavilion. Enjoy the park & discuss what you’re reading. Well behaved dogs welcome too.
The Heroin Epidemic with T. Michele Caliva, MA, RN, CSPI of Upstate Medical Healthlink Series , June 13 at 6 p.m. Open to all.
Death Café June 20 at 6:30 p.m. We gather in a relaxed setting to discuss death, celebrate life, drink tea, and eat delicious treats.
Eat Well, Sleep Better, Move More with Anne Helfer, LMSW, SMP July 7 at 6:30 p.m. Find ways to prioritize self-care with a focus on balance.
Children’s Book Publishing for Adult Writers with Mylisa Larsen July 28 at 6:30 p.m. Published author Mylisa Larsen will offer the nuts & bolts on children’s book publishing. Please register.
For children
‘ON YOUR MARK, GET SET, READ @ MFL!’ Starts June 27. This is a six week program. For children preschool to grade five. Keep up your skills by reading this summer. Pick up your states packet and Challenge #1. Visit the library once a week for the next six weeks, get your log sheets stamped and pick a prize. For every five books/chapters read, receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of several assorted gift arrangements. Registration required
Kids Collective starts June 27. This is a six week program. For families with children preschool to grade five. Come in any time the library is open and visit our Kids COlelctive table for an opportunity to be inspired, innovative, and creative. A weekly craft for conquerors!
Summer Reading Kick-Off Event: ‘Rollicking Teakettle’ Presented by Cathy McGrath – Tuesday evening, June 28th, at 6:30 p.m. All ages welcome.
Toddler Story Time: ‘Champ Camp’ 6 week program -Wednesday mornings June 29 to Aug. 3 at 9:30 a.m. For children 18 months to 3 years old (with adult). Registration required.
Preschool Story Time: ‘Powerhouse Players’ Six week program – Thursdays June 30 to Aug. 4 at 1:30 p.m. For children ages 4 to 6. Registration required.
‘Out of the Cage’ Pet Mobile Event. Presented by Jennifer Clark. Tuesday evening, July 5th, at 6:30 p.m. All ages welcome.
The Museum of Science and Technology (M.O.S.T.) ‘Ready, Set, Spin!: Keep Moving!’ Tuesday evening, July 12, at 6:30 p.m. All ages welcome.

Chess Club Wednesdays in July and August @ 6:30 p.m. Join local chess champ Jeffrey Shi for a special chess club this summer. Ages 8 and up.
Minecraft Factions July 18 at 2 to 4 p.m. Join teen hosts Jaiden and James for this special Minecraft Factions game at the library. There are a limited number of spots to play, and registration is required.
