Jordan-Elbridge voters approve $29.1 million budget; elect three board members
On May 17, Jordan-Elbridge Central School District voters approved the district’s $29,198,000 budget for 2016-17 with 303 yes votes to 56 no votes, elected three Board of Education members, and also voted to establish a capital reserve fund (288 yes and 67 no).
Voters supported an increase of $5,000 for the Elbridge Free Library (282 yes, 75 no) and an increase of $5,000 for the Jordan Bramley Library (280 yes, 77 no).
Voters also elected three candidates for three open board of education seats: Dr. Michael Jorolemon 276 votes – elected, Patricia Starratt-Baum 235 votes – elected and Karen Guerrette, 250 votes – elected.
All three will serve three-year terms.
“We want to thank all of our community members who came out and voted today. Our community’s continued support allows us to deliver great educational programs for our students and have outstanding facilities,” said Superintendent James R. Froio. “For the previous two years, district homeowners who qualified for STAR received a school property tax rebate, and this budget continues that momentum by not raising taxes.”
The approved budget carries a 0 percent tax levy increase, which falls below the district’s calculated tax levy limit of 4.6 percent, per the state’s property tax levy cap law.
The budget also decreases spending by 0.24 percent from the current operating plan.
