The Krebs, located at 53 W Genesee Street in Skaneateles, will be hosting the event in the bar of The Krebs and are encouraging the media and guests to come enjoy time with friends while supporting a good cause.
“Millions of Americans are affected by mental health conditions every year, and we all need to take part to bring awareness and provide resources for those assisting and dealing with various mental illnesses. We are honored to help raise money for such a tremendous organization that is making an impact in our local community. All of the tips generated from the event will go directly to NAMI Syracuse and we encourage everyone to come out to support a great cause while enjoying time with friends and family,” commented Kim Weitsman, owner of The Krebs restaurant.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, in Syracuse, is a not-for-profit, self-help organization of active and concerned families and friends of people who suffer from serious and persistent psychiatric illness, most commonly; Schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression) and severe depression. NAMI is a support and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of families who have relatives with a brain disorder (mental illness.) This includes the families of persons diagnosed with a mental illness, relatives and friends, mental health professionals, and all who share NAMI’s vision and mission.
Since 1949, Mental Health America and other affiliates across the country have led the observance of May as Mental Health Awareness Month by reaching millions of people through the media, local events, and screenings. 1 in 5 Americans will be affected by a mental health condition in their lifetime and every American is affected or impacted through their friends and family. Each year, millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition, and Mental Health Awareness Month is a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to bring awareness about the prevalence and impact of mental illness.
