Even its lone blemish, a five-set defeat to Westhill on Oct. 6, could not derail the Cazenovia girls volleyball team, who remained on top of the OHSL Liberty National division and delivered emphatic victories to answer that lone blemish.
Cazenovia hosted Skaneateles last Tuesday night, the two Lakers sides clashing again like they did on Sept. 24 at Skaneateles, with the rematch at Buckley Gym having the same result, Cazenovia prevailing in three sets.
From the outset, Cazenovia never let Skaneateles into the argument, taking the opening set 25-13 and then claiming the next two sets by 25-18 and 25-15 margins. Jenna Britton earned 10 assists and Morgan Hodinger, with five kills, was one of 10 players on the host side to get at least one kill.
Danielle Tedesco and Paige Nardella each got three aces, with Tedesco adding four kills. Molly Carges also earned four kills as Lauren Lyons got four assists. Jess Macheda and Maleigha Ellithorpe both finished with three assists and three digs as Nardella, Stacy Richer and Marin Rogers had two kills apiece.
On the Skaneateles side, Margaret Canty still had time to earn seven assists, while Emma Goodell had 13 digs and Bailey Herr earned eight digs. Kelsey Kraetz got five kills and two kills, with Bella Falcone adding three kills. Cassidy Pitman added three kills and four digs.
Still at home Tuesday night, Cazenovia swept Syracuse’s Institute of Technology Central 25-17, 25-6, 25-6, where the entire roster got some court time.
Nine different Laker players earned aces, including Carges and Tedesco, who led by each earning four aces. Morgan Mapstone garnered seven kills, with Nardella adding five kills and Hodinger getting four kills. Britton, with 15 assists, shared back-line duties with Ellithorpe, who had seven assists, and Jess Macheda, who had five assists.
Now with a 14-1 record, the Lakers have one regular-season match left, at LaFayette on Monday night, followed by the Onondaga High School League Tournament Oct. 31 at Buckley Gym, all the while preparing for the Section III playoffs and, perhaps, a state tournament run.
