On the morning on Aug. 11, more than 50 citizens showed up at the Cavalry Club in Manlius to listen to a few of this year’s candidates for positions in the county, city and town levels.
Candidates were given the opportunity to address the crowd for three minutes to speak on why they should be elected to their prospective positions in the upcoming November election.
A list of the candidates present and the office they are running were as follows:
Onondaga County Executive — Toby Shelley
Onondaga County Comptroller — Robert Antonacci and James Romero
Onondaga County Legislator, District 3 — Edward Szczesniak
Onondaga County Legislator, District 7 — Lorene Dadey
Onondaga County Legislator, District 10 — Kevin Holmquist
Onondaga County Legislator, District 15 — Timothy Rudd
City of Syracuse Commissioner of Education — Raymond Blackwell
City of Syracuse Councilor, 3rd District — Dave Barrette and Joe Porter
Cicero Town Supervisor — Mark Venesky
DeWitt Town Clerk — Patricia MacCasland
Manlius Town Supervisor — Edmond Theobald
Manlius Town Clerk — Allison Edsall
Town of Manlius Councilor — Richard Rosetti, John Loeffler and Nick Marzola
This was the sixth year the event was held, and was sponsored and organized by the Greater Manlius Chamber of Commerce.
“This is just a good way for the people to hear their candidates and what they stand for,” said Judy Dardzinski, chamber president. ”This is really the starting point for a lot of their campaigns.”
“It’s also a great way for the candidates to network with each other,” added Mark Tetley.
