Clogged storm drains have wet repercussions.
Over the past several years, drainage problems at the intersection of Pearl and Salina streets in the village of Liverpool have repeatedly resulted in flooding the Young and Franklin employee parking lot.
Founded here in 1918, Young and Franklin designs, manufactures and services turbine controls for the energy and oil and gas markets. The firm is located at 942 Old Liverpool Road, in the town of Salina just east of the village line.
At its July 20 meeting, the village of Liverpool board of trustees heard from village engineer Greg Sgromo and DPW Superintendent Bill Asmus who confirmed that storm drains at the intersection are plugged. Onondaga County crews recently pumped the lines and found blockages of four to six feet, they reported
Sgromo said he has been unable to determine where the village right-of-way exists in the area of the clogged lines. The village will need to obtain written authorization to enter the area to make repairs. The property is owned by Harborside Manor Apartments.
Trustee Nick Kochan said the town of Salina should also be responsible for the flooding issue.
Sgromo and village attorney John Langey are contacting Harborside Manor and the town in order to move ahead with the needed repairs.
