Fayetteville-Manlius High School’s cross country, indoor and spring track head coach has earned another accolade to add to his list of honors.
The National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) named Coach Bill Aris the 2015 NHSCA National Girls’ Cross Country Coach of the Year.
The association recognized Aris because he has led the F-M girls’ cross-country program “to the pinnacle of the sport over the past decade,” according to the association’s website.
In 2014, F-M’s girls’ and boys’ teams, both of which Aris leads as head coach, won New York state championships and Nike Cross National titles. F-M’s girls’ program has won the national championship eight of the last nine seasons, and its state title was F-M’s ninth straight. It was the first national championship for the boys’ program.
The 2014 championships also marked the first time in the Nike Cross National’s 11-year history that the number one boys’ and girls’ teams were from the same school.
