Each of the area’s girls lacrosse team would get a weekend off before the gauntlet of the Section III playoffs start early this week.
Christian Brothers Academy has the no. 3 seed in Class A, meaning that it has to beat no. 6 seed Liverpool in Tuesday’s opening round to get a shot at no. 2 seed Cicero-North Syracuse in Thursday’s semifinal at Chittenango.
CBA had a reason to feel some concern after last Monday night’s game at Section V power Honeoye Falls-Lima, even though the Brothers did beat the Cougars 11-7.
This same HF-L team had lost, 15-4, at West Genesee two days earlier. Back home, though, the Cougars were tougher, playing the Brothers on even terms most of the way, but only after CBA had earned a 7-3 halftime advantage.

As the no. 5 seed in Class A, F-M would have to knock off no. 4 seed Baldwinsville on Tuesday if it wanted another shot at top seed and defending state champion West Genesee in the semifinal that precedes C-NS’s battle with CBA or Liverpool.
On Wednesday, Jamesville-DeWitt handled Cortland, 17-8, pulling away with an 11-4 second-half outburst led by Lizzie O’Brien, who had five assists to go with her pair of goals.

Hot-finishing Bishop Ludden-Bishop Grimes had a successful Senior Night, clinching a winning record for 2015 and rolling past Onondaga 15-1 in a game where the Tigers’ lone goal came in the second half, long after Ludden-Grimes (9-6) had pulled far away.

Jennifer Vazquez got three goals, with Molly McInerney and Emma Driscoll each finding the net twice and McInerney piling up two assists. Teresa Shattuck was comparatively quiet, but still had a goal and two assists. Toni Laneve contributed a goal.
A loss to LaFayette the next day didn’t dampen the spirit for Ludden-Grimes as, with the no. 9 seed in the Class C sectional tournament, it played no. 8 seed Homer in the opening round, with a berth against defending state champion and top seed Skaneateles in Tuesday’s quarterfinals at stake.
Ludden-Grimes lost, 12-6, the first half proving decisive with the Trojans gaining a 6-3 edge, and then using its defense to make sure no one on Ludden-Grimes, other than Shattuck (four goals), hurt them, as Vazquez and Byrne managed one goal apiece.
Camile O’Kane played in goal, earning six saves, but saw Homer get six goals from Olivia Porter as the Trojans advanced to face Skaneateles and Ludden-Grimes finished its season with a 9-8 record.
