Ideal conditions were in store for Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool’s track and field teams in Wednesday’s CNY Counties League meets, and they took full advantage.
C-NS’s girls routed West Genesee 111-29 at Bragman Stadium, featuring four titles from Javielle Fanizzi and plenty of help from her teammates, too.
All that Fanizzi did was run the 100-meter dash in 12.3 seconds, claim the 200-meter dash in 26.2 seconds, win the long jump with a leap of 16 feet 8 ½ inches and go 33 feet in the triple jump for a fourth title.
During a sweep of field events, C-NS had Cassandra Baldwin clear 5 feet in the high jump and Whitney Hotchkiss top 8 feet in the pole vault, with Destiny Monica unleashing a strong shot put toss of 36’2” and Nicole Herringshaw throwing the discus 83’2”.
Katherine LeRoy was first in the 400-meter dash in 1:02 flat, with Jilliann Norris winning the 800-meter run in 2:31.0 and Mia Pestle going 3,000 meters in 11:20.0. Cheyanna Colin claimed victory in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.9 seconds. Pestle, Norris, Taylor Parry and Annia Marullo went 9:46.0 in the 4×800 relay for yet another Northstars victory.
On the boys end, C-NS swept every field event in handling West Genesee 120-21, with George Reader going 19’7 ¼” in the long jump and 39’8 ¾” in the triple jump while also clearing 5’10” for a third victory in the high jump.
Elsewhere in the field events sweep, Mark Hentges topped 13’6” in the pole vault, while Ross Mathewson threw the discus 129’6” and Tyler Mosher had a top shot put toss of 46’6”.
Twice, Ed Mahana prevailed, running the 400 hurdles in 58.9 seconds after a 110 high hurdles victory in 15.3 seconds. Andrew Bearkland ran the mile in 4:48.8, with Matt Williams going 52.8 seconds in the 400 sprint, Matt Kilian winning the 200 (23.1 seconds) and Sam Barber covering 3,200 meters in 10:25 flat.
Williams, joined by Jared George, Zach Kennedy and Allen Garnes, won the 4×400 relay in 3:41.9. Killian, Williams, Ryan Massena and Billy Moore were first in the 4×100 in 45.6 seconds as the Northstars also claimed the 4×800 relay in 8:48.1.
Liverpool also rolled through both of its meets against Henninger at LHS Stadium, with the girls Warriors prevailing 109-31 and the boys winning by a 117-24 margin.
In the girls meet, Liverpool won all but one of the races, and spread things around. Ore Akinpelu took 1:12.3 to prevail in the 400 hurdles, with Danelle Sims running the 100 sprint in 13 seconds flat and Alexis Bittel winning the 100 hurdles in 17.4 seconds.
Yasmeen Griffin posted 1:00.5 in the 400 sprint before winning the triple jump, going 32’7 ¼”. Kelly Townley cleared 9’6” in the pole vault and Meghan Milazzo topped 4’8” in the high jump. Juliana Basla ran the 800 in 2:23.4, with Kristina Moore going 5:53.0 in the 1,500 and Vanessa Eberhard winning the 3,000 in 13:44.1.
Liverpool also swept the 4×100 (57.6 seconds), 4×400 (5:05.9) and 4×800 (12:53.5) relays, with Akinpelu, Sims, Griffin and Eberhard all taking part at one point or another.
The more lopsided boys meet included Brandon Mayfield running the 100 in 11.2 seconds and Peter Gonzalez going 23.3 seconds in the 200, with Nick LeClair ducking under two minutes in the 800, prevailing in 1:59.3.
Other wins went to Justin Rivera (110 high hurdles, 17.0 seconds), Ryan Comstock (mile, 4:58.2), Michael Mahan (400 sprint, 53.2 seconds) and Ben Rivers (3,200, 11:17.5), while the Warriors swept the 4×100 (45.0 seconds), 4×400 (4:48.4) and 4×800 (12:38.6) relays.
Claiming three of five field events, Liverpool saw Nate Guarente clear 5’6” in the high jump before Aaron Johnson cleared 9’6” in the pole vault. Andrew Stonebarger earned a victory in the discus, throwing it 95’1 ½”.
