The Liverpool Public Library is looking for a 1.547 percent increase in the tax levy to support its 2015-16 budget.
Taxpayers in the Liverpool Central School District will vote on the $3,846,900 proposal on May 19. The budget represents a 0.36 percent increase over last year’s budget of $3,833,100. The tax increase would amount to approximately an additional $2 on a $100,000 house.
“The board of trustees has proposed a budget that maintains the high quality of library services that the people of the Liverpool Central School District have come to expect,” said LPL Board of Trustees President Tim Dodge. “At the same time, we have kept the limits of what taxpayers can afford foremost in our minds. This budget holds the line on taxes while reflecting the way our community uses its library.”
A total of 317,250 people visited the library last year, checking out 577,304 items.
While there is one open trustee seat on the ballot — Trustee Marlene Ward has opted not to run for reelection — there are no candidates for the seat, as no one filed a petition to run by the deadline. The board will appoint someone to fill the seat until the next election, as write-in candidates are not allowed.
The library budget vote is held in conjunction with the school budget vote, which will take place from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, in the Liverpool High School cafeteria.
