Given its recent strong play, the Baldwinsville boys lacrosse team was quite eager to take another shot at unbeaten West Genesee early last week and try to avenge a 14-8 defeat to those Wildcats back on March 31 at Nottingham High School.
But the heavy rains that fell right before that game, and the concern about what it would do to Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium’s grass field, led to a postponement, and the Bees and Wildcats would meet this Wednesday night.
This gave B’ville some much-needed rest and recovery, and by the time it returned to action last Friday against Canton, the Bees were quite ready to get going again.
The Bees, improving to 6-3 on the season, defeated Canton 16-10, largely on the basis of a productive first half. Already up 4-2 through one period, B’ville tacked on eight goals in the second quarter and extended the margin to 12-3.
This gave the Bees a cushion during a rough third quarter where Canton outscored them 5-1, though it only cut the lead to 13-8, and B’ville would match production the rest of the way.
Connor Smith, Jacob Anderson and Charlie Bertrand each finished with four goals. Smith tacked on a pair of assists as Ryan Gebhardt got two goals and two assists. Pete Fiorini III added a goal and three assists, with Dillon Darcangelo also finding the net. Matt Abbott and Evan Stollicker contributed assists.
The rescheduled game with West Genesee follows B’ville’s battle with Auburn on Monday and precedes Friday’s visit from Fayetteville-Manlius, another chance for the Bees to get payback since it lost to the Hornets 10-7 on April 10.
