At the outset of league competition, track and field teams from Fayetteville-Manlius and Jamesville-DeWitt rolled to easy victories.
Having already beaten Auburn on April 8, the Hornets did the same in a showdown with Liverpool last Wednesday afternoon, including a boys meet where F-M doubled up the Warriors 94-47.
Bryce Millar tore through the mile in 4:21.1 and won the 3,200-meter run in 9:48.60, with Kyle Barber dominating the 400 hurdles in 51.1 seconds after winning the 400-meter dash in 50.7 seconds and also going 2:04.1 in the 800-meter run.
Ed Cheatham claimed the 110 high hurdles in 18.1 seconds, also pairing with Christian Bagabo, Jules Ngadula and Parker Noble to take the 4×100 relay in 45.4 seconds. Barber, Cheatham, Ngadula and Hamza ElHabbal ran the 4×400 in 3:31.6 after ElHabbal helped Millar, Jon Abbott and Patrick Perry run the 4×800 relay in 8:51 flat.
Noble led the Hornets through the field events, first in the long jump by going 18 feet 7 inches and adding a top triple jump of 38’4 ½”. John Ziobrowski threw the shot put 38’11 to win there, while Chibu Ezdibwu cleared 5’10” in the high jump.
In the girls meet, F-M handled Liverpool 108-33, with Olivia Ryan going 51.6 seconds in the 400-meter dash before an 800-meter victory in 2:24.7 as Sophia Ryan had a quick showing in the 1,500-meter run, prevailing in 4:48.1.
Christabel Ezidiegwu, who won the 100 hurdles in 16.6 seconds, went on to take the long jump with a leap of 15’10” and the triple jump by going 35’11”. Savannah Pidkaminy threw the discus 95’6” and Sophia Jones tossed the shot put 29’2”.
Samantha Levy, first in the 3,000-meter run in 10:34 flat, helped Annika Avery and the Ryan sisters win the 4×800 relay in 9:56.6. Sarah Olick-Sutphen, who won the 100-meter dash (52.8 seconds), paired with Shauna Cheatham, Gwenn Shepardson and Cady Barns in the 4×100 relay (52.8 seconds) as Avery, Cheatham and the Ryan sisters won the 4×400 relay in 4:14.9.
Jamesville-DeWitt rolled past Fowler 124-17 in the girls meet and 129-11 in the boys meet. For the girls Red Rams, Alexandria Payne started out by taking the 100 hurdles in 16.0 seconds and added a victory in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.8, finishing her day by clearing 5’4” to win the high jump.
Mariah Williams swept both the discus (79’1”) and shot put (29’10”), while Rachel Fairbanks took the 400-meter dash in 1:04.1. Hannah Butler ran 1,500 meters in 5:11.1 before Elena Haarer grabbed first place in the 800-meter run in 2:30.6.
Also in field events, Mackenzie Maxam went 28’9” in the triple jump, with Gabrielle Tanksley clearing 7 feet in the pole vault. J-D also swept the 4×400 and 4×800 relays.
J-D’s boys side also dominated, seeing Sean Mulvihill take the 100 (11.4 seconds) and 200 (24.0 seconds) sprints and Nolan Roosa sweep the 110 (17.2 seconds) and 400 (1:05.9) hurdles in addition to a top high jump clearance of 5’8”.
Patrick Dye was victorious in the mile (4:57.10) and 3,200 (10:32.60). Joe Murphy swept the shot put (39’10”) and discus (108’9”) and Dylan Volk won the long jump (19’1”) and triple jump.
Other wins went to Tyler Gabriel (400 sprint, 57.1 seconds), Austin Philleo (800, 2:16.8) and Jacob Saletsky, who cleared 10 feet to take the pole vault.
