All through the post-season, Chittenango girls bowler Casey Smith showed that she was able to maintain a top form even under the highest amount of pressure.
And Smith did so again on Sunday, pulling off the best finish of any Section III individual as she took third place in the sectional team portion of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship tournament at Strike-N-Spare Lanes in Mattydale.
The Section III All-Star team included Smith, Megan Durgan, Korena Kinney (each from Rome Free Academy), Kaylee Fallatt (Auburn), Meghan Doris (Clinton) and Kendra Tryniski (Fulton).
In the opening game, Smith struggled to a 169, but that would be her worst game. She followed it with a 233, her best game, and added a 213 to complete the morning session with a 615 series.
During the afternoon session, Smith was steadier, starting with a 201, falling to a 181 but then closing with a 217, all of which gave her a pinfall of 1,214 for the day.
That left her just 33 pins behind Alissa Fontana (Section XI), who was in first place with 1,247, while Angela Gabriele (Section VI) was second with a pinfall of 1,232.
As a whole, Section III also finished third with 5,646 behind Section VI (5,786) and Section XI (5,717). Tryniski took sixth place with 1,166, with Fallatt gaining 16th place (1,093), just ahead of Doris (1,073) in 20th place. Kinney had a 1,038 series and Durgan a 982 series.
