Each of Baldwinsville’s indoor track and field teams would earn third-place finishes in the CNY Counties League National Division championship meets, held on consecutive nights at SRC Arena.
In the boys meet Wednesday night, the Bees picked up 106 points, trailing Liverpool, who prevailed with 156 points, and Cicero-North Syracuse, who was second with 139 points.
Sam Mahar won in the 55-meter dash, hitting the line in 6.817 seconds to edge out Liverpool’s Brandon Mayfield, who had 6.819 seconds.
Mahar also took third (38.67 seconds) in the 300-meter dash, where teammate Tyler Luciano was seventh, but capped his day with a win in the 4×200 relay as he paired with Alex Anselment, Martin Sak and Kieren Sheriden to finish in 1:36.69, just ahead of Liverpool (1:39.90) at the wire.
Then, in the 55-meter hurdles, Evan Donhauser pulled away to win in 8.07 seconds, with C-NS’s Ed Mahan (8.43 seconds) in the runner-up spot.
Sheriden, Brenna LaQue, Andrew Carter and Evan Vannatta got close to a win in the 4×400 relay, its time of 3:35.93 just behind Liverpool’s 3:35.14. In the 4×800, Arden Kellner, Dan Conlon, Denis Keegan and Adam Davis were second in 8:36.70, again with Liverpool (8:34.47) in front.
Kellner was third in the 1,000-meter run in 2:39.33 and fourth in the 600-meter run in 1:30.87, where LaQue (1:32.52) was sixth. Carter Smith took fourth in the shot put, heaving it 39’5 ½”.
Austin Catalano, with his triple jump of 38’10 ¼”, finished second to C-NS’s George Reader (40’8”), with Sak getting third place with a leap of 38’3 ½”.
Ryan Delola went 10:32.80 in the 3,200-meter run and got to third place, with Collin Spaulding seventh. Sak was fifth (18’8 ¾”) and Luciano sixth (15’11 ½”) in the long jump, while Mike Lagana cleared 9 feet to take fourth place in the pole vault.
Anselment made his way to fourth place in the high jump, able to clear 5’4”. Keegan (4:55.28) and Austin Bolton (5:00.91) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the mile. Conlon took fifth in the 1,000-meter run in 2:41.48.
When it was the girls turn for its CNYCL National meet on Thursday night, it would gain 98 points, just behind C-NS (102 points) in that runner-up spot behind Liverpool, who won with 151 points.
The Bees did get some wins, including the 4×400 relay, where Katie Wicks, Marissa Lathrop, Rebecca Lawrence and Hailey Couchman posted 4:06.03 to hold off West Genesee (4:06.63) by less than a second. Wicks, Lathrop, Lawrence and Anna Demer were second (1:53.89) to Liverpool (1:51.06) in the 4×200 relay.
Couchman wasn’t done, going to the 300-meter dash and, in 42.99 seconds, pulling away from Liverpools’ Danelle Sims (43.50 seconds) for the top spot. Then, in the long jump, Couchman went 16’8 ½”, trailing only C-NS’s Javielle Fanizzi, who won with 17’8 ¼” as Martina Blasi took seventh.
Lawrence finished third in the 55 sprint in 7.77 seconds, with Maddie Darnstein fifth in 8.24 seconds. Wicks (1:42.83) edged out Lathrop (1:42.83) for third place in the 600.
Maizy Ludden, in a time of 11:00.10, was second to Liverpool’s Jillian Stagnitta (10:55.24) in the 3,000-meter run, with Elizabeth Fawaz third in 11:38.37. Claire McMahon, Tina Bartelli, Patricia Conlon and Maddie Dickter were fourth in the 4×800 relay in 11:11.16.
Destinee Luciano, in 9.89 seconds, took third place in the 55 hurdles. Mia Bolton gained sixth place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:33.75, while Emily McComb (5:36.65) was seventh. Sarah Rodman was seventh in the 1,000 in 3:29.58.
Haleigh Jaquint, competing in the triple jump, made it to third place, going 33’8 ¾”, while Amber White topped 6’6” to finish third in the pole vault, while Kourtnee Allen was third in the high jump, clearing 4’6”. Anna Miller had a sixth-place shot put throw of 26’10 ¾”.
