High expectations surround the Skaneateles indoor track and field teams as they head to SRC Arena on Thursday night to compete in the Section III Class B and C/D championship meets.
Before that, though, the girls Lakers got one more tune-up in Thursday night’s George Constantino Memorial Invitational at that same Onondaga Community College facility, where with 20 points Skaneateles tied for seventh, again setting the pace among small-school sides.
The best Lakers finish came in the 4×200 relay. Laurel Parker, Olivia Gage, Angela Krause and Shannan Roberts went one minute, 51.57, taking second place and beating everyone except Liverpool, who won in 1:50.43. Krause would also post the best small-school triple jump of 32 feet ½ inch and finish sixth overall, with Lauren Goodchild 15th.
During the 4×400 relay, Roberts, Gage, Mia Grasso and Maddie Peterson posted a time of 4:12.48, putting them in third place, trailing only large schools Liverpool (4:05.66) and Jamesville-DeWitt (4:12.20) at the finish line.
Eighth-grader Cecilia Merriman won the small-school portion of the 300-meter dash, getting a time of 45.11 seconds and earning fifth place overall. Aubreah Lynn topped 4’8” in the high jump and got to seventh place, with Keely Gregg seventh (8 feet) in the pole vault.
Julia Willcox trailed only CBA’s Anna Schug among small-school entrants in the 600-meter run, finishing in a time of 1:42.75 and claiming sixth place overall. Willcox also paired with Liz Dwyer, Natalie Condon and Finan Malcolm to push Skaneateles to fifth place in the 4×800 relay in 10:58.97.
Parker (7.78 seconds) and Amanda Wetmore (7.80 seconds) were eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 55-meter dash. Dwyer made it to 10th place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:21.41 as Mikaela Terhune was 13th in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.13 seconds and Jillian Van Leer was 21st in the 1,000-meter run.
