This was the last week of twin boys and girls indoor track and field events at SRC Arena prior to the Section III championships on Feb. 4 and 5, so the area’s local teams wanted to make a good showing during the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational.
Again, West Genesee’s girls put together a strong effort last Thursday night, picking up 41 points to get to third place. Only Fayetteville-Manlius (100 points) and Liverpool (63 points) fared better as Westhill-Bishop Ludden, with 24 points, tied for sixth place.
WG’s Carly Benson needed four minutes, 47.34 seconds to rout the field in the 1,500-meter run, with Westhill-Ludden teammates Genny Corcoran (5:00.98) and Annibel Coolican (5:05.87) third and fifth, respectively.
Megan Delia gave the Wildcats a second-place time of 41.81 seconds in the 300-meter dash, trailing only Liverpool’s Ore Akinpelu, who won in 41.12 seconds as Westhill-Ludden’s Jayanna Monds (45.71 seconds) took eighth place. Delia added a sixth-place long jump of 15 feet 5 inches.
Moving to the shot put, WG’s J’Nazia Anderson had a throw of 33’6 ½”, getting to second place behind Nottingham’s Shayna Santarelli-Hansen, who won with 37’11”.
Benson also paired with Elise Dunshee, Lindsay Weaver and Kendall Dombroske to get second place in the 4×800 relay in 10:09.40 behind F-M’s top time of 10:04.29. Dunshee, Weaver, Nicole Paone and Valerie Pirro took fourth in the 4×400 relay (4:22.84) as Jordan-Elbridge’s quartet of Abby Gugel, Julie Hines, Madi Hatt and Emma Burns was sixth in 4:26.61.
On her own, Dombroske was sixth in the 3,000-meter run in 11:10.95, while Maria Matkoski was sixth in the 600-meter run in 1:44.62 and Marcellus’ Tori Stopen finished 10th.
Westhill-Ludden saw Katie Doherty finish second (9 feet) and Noelle Coolican finish third (8’6”) in the pole vault behind Central Square’s Bethany Cripps, who won by clearing 9’6”.
Also for the Warriors, Tatiana Monds was fifth in the 55-meter dash in 7.61 seconds, while Alaina Kenny was eighth in the 1,000-meter run (3:20.80), with Solvay’s Katie Harrington ninth and the Wildcats’ Sarah Ferranti 10th in the 1,000. Harrington also was eighth in the high jump, clearing 4’8”, and ninth in the triple jump.
In last Wednesday’s boys meet, Westhill-Ludden picked up 18 points, finishing eighth, though well of the 101-point pace that F-M set. Solvay, with 13 points, took 10th place.
Alex Kiley picked up all of Westhill-Ludden’s points. In the long jump, Kiley went 42 feet 1 inch, beating the field and well clear of Henninger’s Yarell Johnson (39’10 ¾”) in the runner-up spot. Solvay saw Owen Ryan finish third with a leap of 39’9 ¾”, just behind Johnson, as Jordan-Elbridge’s Tyler Jackson was seventh (38’8 ¼”) and the Warriors’ Xavier Fleurinor 10th.
Also, Kiley went 19 feet 8 ¼ inches in the long jump, finishing second behind Oswego’s Christan Cabanlig, who won with 20’4 ¼”. Solvay’s Owen Ryan was fifth, going 19’4 ½”, as Garrett Lee (18’7”) was eighth.
West Genesee’s Logan McAnulty had his team’s best finish, getting to fourth place in the 1,000 in a time of 2:41.99 as Marcellus’ Pat McGuane (2:51.79) was ninth. McAnulty also had a ninth-place time of 39.20 seconds in the 300 sprint.
Marcellus got all of its points from the high jump, where Noah Townsend cleared 5’8” and tied for second behind Oswego’s Kyle Crossman, who cleared 5’10”. Townsend’s Mustangs teammate, Sean Raymond, topped 5’6” and tied for sixth place, with Tom Dailey sixth (9’6”) and Matt Abbott seventh (9 feet) in the pole vault.
Solvay saw Dan Hatch clear 10’6” in the pole vault for fourth place and Jacob Hook finish sixth in the shot put, heaving it 42’3”, with J-E’s Brad Marshall (41’8”) ninth.
The Eagles’ Zach Rink was eighth in the 55 hurdles in 8.75 seconds, with Solvay’s Isaiah Lee (8.96 seconds) ninth. WG’s Ryan Dunning took 11th in the 3,200-meter run. The Bearcats’ Jordan Devereaux was 11th in the 600.
Marcellus had the quartet of McGuane, Ethan Mosure, Alex Stopen and Joe Riccardi finish seventh in the 4×800 in 9:16.41.Westhill-Ludden’s Richie Easterly, Matt McAnaney, Chris Coates and Tom Howard got to seventh in the 4×200 in 1:42.38, beating out J-E (1:43.17), who was eighth, and Solvay in 11th place. The Warriors were eighth (3:58.06) and the Eagles 11th in the 4×400.
