Back from a weekend full of work (in a tournament at John Glenn High School on Long Island) and fun (time spent in New York City), the Baldwinsville girls volleyball team resumed the usual business of romping past its CNY Counties League opposition.
The Bees hosted Cicero-North Syracuse last Wednesday night at the Baker High School gym, taking control at the outset and not letting go in a 25-14, 25-17, 25-12 sweep over the Northstars.
Meghann Smith averaged nearly 10 assists per set, getting 29 assists overall. Maddy Price also set the tone with her six aces, to go with five kills and four digs.
Rachel Aiello, with 12 kills, led B’ville’s front line. Abby May contributed nine kills, with Shayna Webber adding six kills. Emily Pascale had a team-best six digs as the Bees went on to a 25-11, 25-9, 25-9 sweep over Corcoran later in the week.
As for Baldwinsville’s boys volleyball team, who lost to Rochester McQuaid on Oct. 10, it remains unbeaten within the CNY Counties League.
During last Friday night’s visit to Cicero-North Syracuse, the Bees would have a tougher test, but still manage to beat the Northstars in four sets.
Early on, B’ville was in top form, rolling past C-NS 25-12 in the first set and 25-16 in the second set. That seemed to relax the Bees, and the Northstars took full advantage, winning the third set 25-19 before B’ville reclaimed control and closed it out, 25-17, in the fourth set.
Corey Toscano put away 19 kills, adding three digs. Ryan Gell managed 13 kills and six assists, with Dalton Mahan contributing eight kills, Jonathan Dunn seven kills and Liam Wicks six kills.
Feeding them all, Pat Dubiel had 44 assists to go with three kills and four digs, and David Cerqua gained seven digs as Charles McAlister added four digs. C-NS lost despite 10 kills from Garrett Coleman, seven kills from Luke Barnell and 23 assists from Connor Millias.
The Bees stepped out of league play last Wednesday night to sweep Living Word Academy in three sets by scores of 25-9, 25-12 and 25-20.
On a well-balanced front line, Dunn and Gell each picked up six kills, while Mahan finished with five kills. With Dubiel resting, Dan Shorney did most of the setting duties, earning eight assists, while Cerqua got two assists and McAlister picked up five digs.
