Two defeats – one to Cazenovia, the other in the finals of the Lewiston-Porter Tournament – had slowed the early-season momentum of the Skaneateles girls soccer team.
Thus, the Lakers were eager to find its form again, and though it had little time to rest before OHSL Liberty division play resumed, Skaneateles fought through.
During last Monday night’s game against Hannibal at Hyatt Stadium, Skaneateles tore through the first half, and then conserved its energy as it cruised past the Warriors 4-0.
Those first 40 minutes saw the Lakers keep the ball in Hannibal’s end, leading to a series of scoring opportunities. Skaneateles converted them, too, with four different players – Tate Green, Catie Woodruff, Lauren Goodchild and Molly Newton – earning those four goals.
Hannah Powers earned a pair of assists, and then she, along with the rest of the Lakers, quieted down during the second half, seeing Hannibal’s Kassi Jones find the net, but still maintain a comfortable lead.
After a couple of days to rest and regroup, Skaneateles visited Solvay on Thursday night, and had its Hannibal total by halftime, only to double it in the 40 minutes that followed during an impressive 8-1 romp over the Bearcats.
At the forefront of this attack, Green put together a three-goal hat trick, adding an assist, while Goodchild helped out with two goals and one assist.
Melissa Amory and Amanda Wetmore also found the net, and though Sophie Kush lost her shutout in the second half on Chelsie Delperuto’s goal, she still managed six saves.
More road games await the Lakers next week, as it ventures to Altmar-Parish-Williamstown on Tuesday and then visit Jordan-Elbridge Thursday night, the prelude to a key early-October stretch that includes showdowns with Cazenovia and Skaneateles.
