Four locations in the town of Clay and one in the town of Salina will host the 2014 Salt City International Soccer Tournament this weekend.
More than 40 soccer clubs, including both boys’ and girls’ teams featuring players ages 10 to 19, from New York and Canada will participate in the 29th annual tournament, set to take place Saturday, July 26, and Sunday, July 27. Games will take place at Willowfield Elementary on Route 31, Clay Central Park on Wetzel Road, Liverpool High School on Wetzel Road, Clay Park South on Buckley Road and Linares Field on Larkin Road.
The tournament is hosted by the Salt City Soccer Club, which, according to its website. “is dedicated to promoting and developing youth soccer activities, primarily in Liverpool… Emphasis is placed on a variety of skill-building educational programs, sportsmanship, and fair play. The Salt City Soccer Club provides a healthy activity through its recreational, travel, competitive and small-sided games programs (these programs emphasize fun, and de-emphasize winning at all costs). For the player with advanced skills and greater ambition, highly competitive premier league play and development is offered and encouraged.”
The event features 30 teams from Canada, 20 from Western New York and 39 from Central New York.
