Even though the high school lacrosse season has ended, a busy summer of camps, clinics and tournaments await most of the area’s top players.
And that included, for members of Christian Brothers Academy’s girls team, a chance to try out for spots on the a national team – all while in the middle of another run to the state Class B final four.
While the playoffs were still going on in late May, CBA’s Alexa Radziewicz, Emily Ehle and Maddie Cook went to Maryland with the Upstate girls lacrosse club team for the U.S. National Tournament, and Upstate won its division.
As a result, the CBA players were invited to try out for the U.S. Women’s National Under-19 team that, in 2015, will travel to Scotland to play in the lacrosse World Cup.
Those tryouts went well, so Radziewicz, Ehle and Cook went back for a went back for a second round, joined by Cicero-North Syracuse’s trio of Hanna Haven, Meghan Duffy and Bri Stahr, plus Kyla Sears (Skaneateles), Sarah Willard (Cazenovia), Tomasina Leska (Vestal), Cassidy Doster (LaFayette) and Audrey Cerrone (Marcellus).
As if those were not enough honors, Ehle and Radziewicz, along with Fayetteville-Manlius’ Amara Pulver, are part of the Upstate team playing in the Under Armour All-American Classic July 12 at Towson University, near Baltimore.
There’s also a boys edition of the Under Armour All-American Classic, where John Cote, who just helped F-M win its first Section III Class A title in 21 years and advance to the state final, will play for the Upstate team with T.J. Connellan (Cazenovia), Kendall Keahey (Liverpool), Colyn Lyons (LaFayette), Nick Mellen (West Genesee), Dean Riley (Homer) and Noah Taylor (Watertown).
