Though the high school lacrosse season is completed, the curtain has lifted on a summer where top local players take part in all kinds of camps, clinics, travel teams and tournaments.
And that even includes a bit of national recognition, especially when it comes to a talented core of girls players from Cicero-North Syracuse.
Just after the Northstars’ Section III Class A semifinal win over Fayetteville-Manlius (and before it lost the title game to eventual state champion West Genesee), several C-NS players, including Hanna Haven, Meghan Duffy and Bri Stahr, went to Maryland for the U.S. National Tournament.
Not only did the Upstate club team that they played on win its division, Haven, Duffy and Stahr earned invitations to tryouts for the U.S. Women’s National Under-19 team that, in 2015, will travel to Scotland to play in the lacrosse World Cup.
Those tryouts went well, so the C-NS players went back for a second round, joined by eight other Upstate players. They included CBA teammates Emily Ehle, Maddie Cook and Alexa Radziewicz, along with Kyla Sears (Skaneateles), Sarah Willard (Cazenovia), Cassidy Doster (LaFayette), Audrey Cerrone (Marcellus) and Tomasina Leska (Vestal).
When those tryouts were done, Haven, Duffy and Stahr, along with C-NS teammate Mary Kate Bonnani, were named to the Upstate squad that will play July 12 in the Under Armour All-American Lacrosse Classic at Towson University, near Baltimore.
The boys edition of the Under Armour Classic is on July 13, and the Upstate team includes Liverpool’s Kendall Keahey, joined by T.J. Connellan (Cazenovia), John Cote (Fayetetville-Manlius), Colyn Lyons (LaFayette), Nick Mellen (West Genesee), Dean Riley (Homer) and Noah Taylor (Watertown).
