To make up ground from early-season postponements, some area track and field teams had to pack in two league meets plus a weekend of invitational competition.
That certainly was the case for Jamesville-DeWitt, who saw swept last Monday’s three-team match against Chittenango and Fulton, stopping the Bears 107-33 and 113-27 on the girls side.
Allison Semmel swept to titles in the 100-meter hurdles (17.1 seconds) and 400 hurdles (1:11.4), while Elena Haarer ran 1,500 meters in 5:26.9 and added an 800-meter title in 2:33.4 as she edged Rachel Fairbanks, who did win the 400-meter dash in 1:05.4.
Patrece Martin, who shared a top time of 13.5 seconds in the 100-meter dash with freshman Alexia Carr, won the triple jump by going 34 feet 10 ¾ inches and finished second in the long jump (15’6” by half an inch to Fulton’s Shannon Zych (15’6 ½”).
Jesenia Haynes (93’3”) and Tangela Hightower (89’4”) went 1-2 in the discus, with Salwa El-Hindi (29’7”) edging Hightower (27’7”) in the shot put.
Carr matched Chittenango’s Kaitlyn Boyer in the 200-meter dash, each finishing in 28.7 seconds, but joined Martin, Mackenzie Maxam and Afua Addo as J-D won the 4×100 relay in 53.5 seconds. Haarer, Maxam, Fairbanks and Catherine Keane won the 4×400 relay in 4:27.7.
J-D’s boys also swept Fulton and Chittenango, scoring 104 points to the Red Raiders’ 80 and the Bears’ 37. Zach Liebmann cleared 13 feet in the pole vault to lead a sweep of the field events.
Will Cote put together a first-place long jump of 20’7 ½”, while Davis Elmore threw the discus 124’7”. Dylan Volk unleashed a top triple jump of 41’8 ½”, one of the best in Section III this spring, as Joe Murphy cleared 5’8” in the high jump.
Then J-D had another three-team meet on Wednesday at Mexico, where on the girls side the Red Rams beat the host Tigers 93-48 and also defeated Cortland 106-35. J-D’s boys nearly blanked Corcoran 107-3, but had a harder time with Mexico before prevailing 85-56.
In the girls meet, Martin unleashed a top triple jump of 35’7”, part of a sweep of the field events. Haynes improved to 96’8” in the discus and also won the shot put (28’7”), with Toria Carter clearing 4’6” in the high jump and Brooke DeRoberts topping 9 feet in the pole vault.
Semmel went 17.4 seconds in the 100 hurdles and improved to 1:11.2 in the 400 hurdles, winning both events, while Haarer got a time of 2:31.1 in the 800.
The boys meet included Murphy winning three times, including the 400 hurdles (1:05.2), shot put (38’2”) and 110 high hurdles, along with Patrick Dye running the mile in 4:39.7 and the 3,200 in 10:17.4 as Austin Philleo got first place in the 800 in 2:11 flat.
Liebmann went 11.4 seconds in the 100 sprint, but watched teammate Jacob Salesky clear 9’6” to win the pole vault. Cote went 18’4” in the long jump and Volk had a first-place triple jump of 40’4”. J-D also swept the 4×100 (46.2 seconds), 4×400 (3:43.3) and 4×800 (9:12.0) relays.
As that went on, East Syracuse-Minoa met CBA in yet another three-team match, the Spartans sweeping the Brothers 95-42 and Fulton 98-38 on the girls side, and winning 99-42 over the Brothers and 89-52 over the Red Raiders on the boys side.
