Everything was in line for the Bishop Ludden girls lacrosse team as it sped toward Tuesday’s key early-season showdown with defending Section III Class C champion Skaneateles.
The Gaelic Knights moved to 5-0 last Monday night, when it went to Onondaga and erupted for its largest offensive total of the season in a 19-6 romp over the Tigers.
Led again by the duo of Teresa Shattuck and Gemma O’Kane, Ludden tore right through OCS’s defenses in a high-scoring first half, not letting up until it had registered a 12-3 lead.
By the time the game was done, Shattuck had matched the Tigers by herself with six goals, adding four assists, while O’Kane scored five times and added a pair of assists.
In support, Seanna Laneve and Kellie Byrne each scored twice, while Nicole Granteed, Jenn Vazquez, Stephanie Brazell and Julia Catalano had one goal apiece. In goal, Meg Farrell had a solid outing, as she finished with six saves.
Ludden was fortunate to play before the bad weather hit the area. Among other things, it postponed a Marcellus game with Cazenovia that was switched to the Mustangs’ turf in order to deal with the snow, but then nixed because it snowed too much to clear the turf in time. They’ll make up that game on April 28 at 7:30.
Marcellus, in a non-league game on Saturday, had to run into Class A powerhouse Cicero-North Syracuse and could not keep up for all 50 minutes in an 18-10 defeat to the Northstars.
The Mustangs fell into a 9-4 halftime deficit, and even with a solid, well-balanced attack, it had no answer on the defensive side for C-NS star Tiffany Ryan, who put up eight goals as teammate Samantha Tortora managed three goals and five assists.
Grace Nolan, with two goals and three assists, set the pace for the Mustangs. Ally Burrows, Audrey Cerrone and Maddie Conklin also had two-goal outings, with Molly Tice and Keelin Kelly getting single goals.
Jordan-Elbridge did play on Tuesday afternoon, before the snow hit – and ran into Skaneateles, who promptly took out the Eagles 19-3.
All of J-E’s offense was produced in the first half, where Alexis Fietta, Antonia Malvaso and Miranda Malvaso put in goals and Katie Goodrich added an assist.
Still, the Lakers roared out to a 13-3 halftime lead and overcame Morgan Conroy’s 17 saves by controlling the flow of play. Molly Wood had five goals and one assist, with Hannah Powers adding four goals and two assists as Kyla Sears got three goals and one assist.
J-E would face Onondaga on Thursday night and would prove just as dominant as Ludden was, roaring out to a 10-3 halftime lead and going on to beat the Eagles 16-4.
Gabby Thorpe set the pace, scoring four times and adding three assists. Marissa Malvaso and Alexis Malvaso both had three-goal hat tricks, with Katie Goodrich and Emily Kuehnle getting two goals apiece. Fietta and Miranda Malvaso got single goals, with Emily Somes and Haley Schwarting getting assists.
Westhill also returned to action on Thursday, facing Tully, and with a bit first half did enough to fend off the late charges of the Black Knights and earn a 10-7 victory.
By winning most of the first-half draws, Westhill managed to camp out in Tully’s end, and it translated to a 7-1 lead. That cushion was needed as the Black Knights, led by Mackenzie Bolt and Zoe Hendricks (each with two goals and one assist), nearly caught up in the late going.
Still, the Warriors held on behind a deep, well-balanced attack. Shelby Stack and Ryann Liable each scored twice, with Stack adding an assist. Liz McAnaney had a goal and two assists as Sophia Dower also had two assists. Haleigh Farrell, Lydia Gosson, Natalie Jetter, Emily Kessler and Dana Radin had one goal apiece.
