A documentary film chronicling a local duo’s cross-country bike trip will be screened in Central New York for the first time this Friday.
“The Long Bike Back,” directed by Julia Wrona, chronicles the journey of Pearson and Pete Constantino, originally of Skaneateles, as they travel from Oregon to Massachusetts on Route 20.
After Pearson was the victim in hit-and-run accident, the brothers used the ride and film as an opportunity to advocate for sharing the roads and safety for cyclists. There are also challenges they must overcome to complete the ride, including record high temperatures, flooding, food poisoning, inhospitable drivers, poor road conditions, crashes, detours, flat tires, and injuries, according to the film’s website.
The trip included a stop in Skaneateles in September, 2008.
The film will be screened at 6:30 p.m. on April 25 as a part of the Syracuse International Film Festival’s Syracuse Spring Fest taking place at the Palace Theater in Syracuse. Following the screening the director and two subjects will hold a question and answer session. Tickets are available at the door or at filminsyracuse.com.
