In between the emphatic victory it delivered over reigning state Class B champion CBA on April 5 and the showdown with another big powerhouse, West Genesee, this Saturday night, the Skaneateles girls lacrosse team was intent on casting aside all of its other challengers, too.
That included Cazenovia, who visited Hyatt Stadium last Tuesday night and, for much of the first half, created some headaches, but eventually Skaneateles put away that other group of Lakers and rolled to a 20-6 victory.
One difference from the CBA romp three nights earlier was that Skaneateles gave up the game’s first goal, to Sarah Willard. All that did, though, was lead to a quick response as Hannah Powers hit back-to-back goals, with Alana Navaroli and Kyla Sears also finding the net to make it 4-1.
Briefly, Cazenovia closed the gap to 4-3, but Sears and Hannah Logan hit on goals 30 seconds apart to restore the margin. And with the score 8-4 late in the half, Powers and Molly Wood found the net, extending the lead to 10-4 as they went to the break.
Gradually, the speed and skill of Skaneateles wore Cazenovia down during a lopsided second half as it scored 10 more times, leading to yet another running clock.
Most of all, that production was spread around. Casey VanSlyke did most of her damage in the latter stages, getting three goals and three assists to match Sears’ total, while Navaroli also managed a three-goal hat trick.
Wood had two goals and two assists, while Nicole Beatson and Molly Newton both managed one goal and one assist. Natalie Roche, Molly Rourke and Makena Gorman joined Logan with single goals.
Still at home on Friday night, Skaneateles smashed Clinton 23-0, doing whatever it wanted in this game as it led 15-0 by halftime and got the whole roster to see some game action.
In all, 15 different players got at least one goal, with Powers and Beatson both managing three-goal hat tricks and Powers adding a pair of assists.
Navaroli scored twice and gained three assists, while Sears, VanSlyke and Mae McGlynn earned two goals apiece. Wood, Newton, Gorman, Tate Green, Bailey Herr, Abby Kuhns, Elizabeth Lane, Kristen Pille and Natalie Roche all took turns finding the net.
