A 30-year-old man accused of robbing the Seneca Federal Bank at 201 N. Main St., in North Syracuse, on Monday, April 7, was arrested four days later at the home of an acquaintance.
Lucas Lukenheimer, 30, of 2221 Brewerton Road, Mattydale, allegedly entered the bank branch at 2:55 p.m. April 7, and demanded money.
The suspect was wearing a grey hoodie, white-rimmed sunglasses and a mask over his mouth and nose. Bank employee gave him an undisclosed amount of cash, and he exited the bank’s rear doors to run through the parking lot towards the North Syracuse Fire Department, according to Onondaga County Sheriff’s spokesman, Dep. Herb Wiggins.
A joint investigation by the North Syracuse Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office led detectives to Lukenheimer, Wiggins said. He was arrested at 3:55 p.m. Friday, April 11, at 5547 Bear Road, which Wiggins described as the residence of someone Lukenheimer knew.
He was charged with third-degree robbery third-degree grand larceny 3rd, both felonies. He was scheduled for arraignment in North Syracuse Village Court that evening.
North Syracuse Police Chief Michael Crowell noted that his officers had recently undergone training regarding how to respond to bank robberies. “You know, our officers are always taking training courses for various situations,” Crowell said, “and that one really paid off on Monday.”
