The window to circulate petitions for candidates for the Skaneateles Board of Education is now open.
Petitions must be returned to the district by April 21 at 5 p.m. To qualify for the May 20 ballot, candidates must get 25 signatures from residents of the school district.
Any interested candidates can pick up the proper forms at the district office, 45 E. Elizabeth St.
There will be two school board seats up for vote this year as current Board President Kathryn Carlson and board member Geralyn Huba’s terms will expire at the end of May.
Elected terms for board members are four years, though Huba has only served on the board for one year. Because she received the third-most votes out of the five candidates for the board last May, she took over for Michael Card, who stepped down after filling in for former board member Valerie Jerabeck, who had resigned in 2012, part-way into her elected term.
School board members do not earn salaries, though they can be granted stipends to attend trainings or conferences. Candidates must be residents of the district. For more information on the board of education, visit skanschools.org.
The May 20 vote will include the school board election, annual budget referendum, a referendum for school buses and a referendum for a facilities capital project.
